We Have a Winner –Jimmy McGregor

After much consideration, our art team has chosen a winner of our Goodnight Rosemarinus illustration competition. We had a number of very good images submitted but all agreed that Jimmy McGregor’s illustration was the best depiction of the story, a good balance of drawing skill and sensitivity to the written work.

Story author Caroline Grebbell summed up the judges’ decision. “I thought Jimmy McGregor’s illustration was an excellent interpretation of my story.

“Rosemarinus, strengthened by her foreground positioning, is clearly an empowered female. She has turned her back on her oppressor and her focussed gaze stares directly out of the page so engaging the reader. In the background, illuminated by its own light, stands The Observer. The lines of its carapace echo those of Rosemarinus, but its metal hands are powerless to act against her.

“When I look at this illustration I feel that I want to know more about these characters. I want to read the story.”

Jimmy McGregor lives in Hawick, in the Borders of Scotland.

The runners-up are Emma Howitt from Melton Mowbray, England and Eve Murray from Edinburgh.
